ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Chad Ellimoottil, MD
Board-Certified UrologistÂ
Associate Professor of Urology
Division Chief, Men’s Health
University of Michigan
Dr. Chad Ellimoottil is a board-certified urologist at the University of Michigan who specializes in elevated PSA, abnormal prostate MRI findings, and prostate cancer detection. He has helped thousands of men understand their prostate cancer risk and determine the right next step.

Patients commonly see Dr. Ellimoottil for elevated or rising PSA, abnormal MRI results, biomarker testing, second opinions about whether a biopsy is needed, and previous negative biopsies with ongoing concerns.

He has particular expertise in transperineal MRI-ultrasound fusion biopsy, an advanced approach that precisely targets suspicious areas of the prostate while substantially reducing the risk of serious infection compared with traditional transrectal biopsy.

Dr. Ellimoottil has been on the University of Michigan faculty for more than a decade and serves as Division Chief of Men’s Health and Reconstruction. He has authored or co-authored more than 160 peer-reviewed articles, taught advanced prostate biopsy techniques nationally, and served as a peer reviewer for the American Urological Association’s Early Detection of Prostate Cancer Guidelines.
Â
His goal is to make prostate cancer evaluation clear, accurate, and less intimidating. He believes patients deserve a thoughtful evaluation—not an automatic biopsy—and takes time to explain PSA results, MRI findings, biopsy options, and cancer risk in straightforward language.
